You Can Get Caught without Insurance and Get Fined

Driving without car insurance is against the law. Along with breaking the law, driving without insurance also leaves you liable to pay for any damages caused by you in an accident. When it comes to being caught without insurance, there are many different ways the law enforcement officers will go about catching you. Here are some of the things they will do to catch people who are breaking the law by operating their cars without being properly insured.

Ask you for proof when they pull you over

If you get pulled over for any type of traffic violation, then the law enforcement officers will have the right to ask you to show proof of auto insurance. If you provide them with proof, then you will be fine, but if you aren't able to prove you have insurance then you will be given a ticket. You will have to prove either that you had insurance or that you purchased it by the date provided on the citation they gave you.

Ask for proof in an accident

If you are involved in an auto accident, you will need to provide proof of insurance at the time of the accident. If you aren't able to prove that you have insurance then you will be cited at this time, and you may also be sued in order for the other parties involved in the accident to be able to recoup their losses from the accident damage.

Receive notification from the insurance company

If you let your car insurance lapse, then the insurance company is required to pass this information on to the motor vehicle division that issued you your car registration. When the department receives notification from your insurance company that you are no longer insured then they will suspend your registration. This means when a law enforcement officer happens to run your tags, they will see you don't have current registration. When they pull you over for expired registration, they will also learn you don't have proper insurance.

Now that you have a better understanding of just how easy it is for you to get caught when you drive without auto insurance, you know just how important it is for you to make sure you never let your coverage lapse. Make sure that you always have with you or in your car the proof of coverage that is required in the state in which you are living.
